From 1 November 2026, a GP or prescribed medical practitioner can do a Medicare Healthy Kids Check for a Medicare-eligible 3-year-old, once in the child’s lifetime. MBS Online: Medicare Healthy Kids Check factsheet (PDF)
There’s no new item number. A GP bills the time-tiered health assessment item for the time spent with the child: 701, 703, 705, or 707. A prescribed medical practitioner bills 224, 225, 226, or 227. MBS Online: Medicare Healthy Kids Check factsheet (PDF) AN.0.36
It’s part of the Government’s Thriving Kids initiative: a check of the child’s physical, social, and emotional development, health, and wellbeing, to pick up developmental delay and neurodevelopmental differences early, and connect the child with support or further assessment. Until 1 November 2026, the health assessment items are only for their existing target groups, such as people aged 75 and older. AN.0.36
